Research on the path of high forestry entrepreneurship performance of returning migrant workers under the background of the implementation of rural revitalization strategy

【Abstract】In recent years, under the policy guidance of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, green development concepts and policies such as “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” have been deeply rooted in the mind of Chinese people, and China’s forestry development has entered a new stage. Against this background, local governments have been increasingly emphasizing the economic potential of forestry through entrepreneurship, and it has become common for rural migrant workers to return to their hometowns to start businesses in the forestry field. However, there has been very little research in existing literature to understand the impact of different combinations of factors on the forestry entrepreneurial performance of rural migrant workers from the perspective of configuration, and the in-depth research particularly insufficient. This paper uses 223 questionnaires for rural migrant works returning to their hometowns to start their own business in 13 cities in Jiangsu Province as sample data. Based on Fritz Heider’s attribution theory and the perspectives of rural migrant workers themselves and the external environment, this paper analyzes the asymmetric causal relationship of rural migrant workers’ entrepreneurial performance from four dimensions, namely, individual characteristics, human capital characteristics, family environment and policy support, and explores the impact of multiple factors on entrepreneurial performance. Through the research, the following conclusions are drawn. First, the high entrepreneurial performance of returning rural migrant workers is the result of a combination of factors, and there are multiple paths to achieve it. Second, the path configuration of high entrepreneurial performance for rural migrant workers with different genders in starting new businesses in their hometowns is not the same, and thus core conditions for different genders of rural migrant workers to achieve high entrepreneurial performance are also different. Third, there is an alternative relationship between vocational training and professional skills, and between intergenerational entrepreneurship, government subsidies, and vocational training. Intergenerational entrepreneurship and family emotional support, government subsidies, and vocational training all have complementary relationships. Compared with previous literature, this paper makes contributions in the following three aspects. First, from the perspective of configuration, it proposes a holistic theoretical framework for exploring the realization of high entrepreneurial performance of returning rural migrant workers engaged in forestry, which further enriches related research on returning rural migrant workers and expands the research ideas and research directions on rural migrant workers’ entrepreneurial performance. Second, this paper introduces the qualitative comparative analysis method into the research field of rural migrant workers’ forestry entrepreneurship, and constructs a two-layer four-dimensional matching model of the linkage effect of rural migrant workers’ entrepreneurship influencing factors and the realization of high performance. It explains the nonlinear relationship of high entrepreneurial performance of returning rural migrant workers and multiple factors, which provides a new idea for analyzing the causal relationship between high entrepreneurial performance and multiple factors. Third, it discusses the synergistic combination effect of multiple factors on the entrepreneurial performance of returning rural migrant workers, explores multiple paths to improve the forestry entrepreneurial performance of rural migrant workers, and further verifies the same effect of different paths. The research of this paper reveals to a certain extent the internal mechanism of rural migrant workers achieving high forestry entrepreneurial performance, which will help government departments to formulate more targeted measures to improve the forestry entrepreneurial performance of returning rural migrant workers under the trend of mass entrepreneurship and innovation, and provide differentiated policy support for returning rural migrant workers to start their own forestry businesses and to further realize high entrepreneurial performance.
